Tap finishes: chrome, black, gold PVD… which to choose and how to maintain them
A tap's finish is a small detail with a huge impact: it sets the bathroom's character and decides whether it matches or clashes with the rest. We go over the most in-demand finishes and how to care for them.
Chrome: the classic that never fails
Bright, timeless and the most versatile. It goes with any style and hides water drops and limescale well. If in doubt, chrome is the safe bet.
Matt black: contemporary and elegant
Black brings a sophisticated, designer touch, ideal in modern, industrial or minimalist bathrooms. It contrasts especially well over white basins and light countertops. It needs a little more attention with limescale due to its matt finish.
Gold PVD and rose gold: warmth and luxury
Gold finishes are having a great moment. They bring warmth and an exclusive air, perfect for spa-style or warm-toned bathrooms. Rose gold softens the whole even more.
Nickel, titanium and copper PVD
For those wanting something different without being loud: brushed nickel is discreet and elegant, titanium brings a very current warm grey, and copper adds character. All in a PVD finish.
What is PVD and why does it matter?
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is a treatment that deposits the colour onto the tap in an extremely thin, hard layer, at a molecular level. The advantage? It's far more resistant to abrasion, scratches and discolouration than a traditional lacquer or electroplating. A PVD finish keeps its colour and shine for years, even in delicate tones like gold or black.
How to combine them in the bathroom
The key is consistency: choose one finish and keep it across the basin, bidet, shower and accessories for a harmonious result. Our series —Sirio, Persio and the rest of the taps & mixers— are available in the same PVD finish range, so the whole bathroom speaks the same language.
Maintenance
To keep them spotless, just clean with a soft cloth and water, drying afterwards to avoid limescale marks. Always avoid abrasive products, scourers and acidic or bleach-based cleaners, which can damage the finish, especially on black and gold.
