Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about porcelain stoneware, formats, finishes and how we work at QualityTiles. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.
What is porcelain stoneware and how does it differ from glazed ceramic?
Porcelain stoneware is a ceramic material with a very compact body, fired at over 1,200 °C, with water absorption below 0.5%. That low porosity makes it harder and more resistant to frost, stains, chemicals and wear than traditional wall tile or glazed ceramic, which absorbs more water. That's why porcelain is ideal for high-traffic floors, bathrooms, kitchens and outdoors.
What does it mean for porcelain to be "rectified"?
Rectified means that, after firing, the edges of each tile are mechanically cut so they all have exactly the same size and the edges are straight. This allows installation with a minimal joint (1.5–2 mm) for a more continuous, elegant finish, especially with large formats.
What tile formats do you offer?
We work from wall formats (30×60 and 30×90 cm) up to large floor formats: 60×60, 90×90, 60×120 and 120×120 cm, depending on the collection. In the catalogue you can filter directly by format to see which series are available in each size.
Can wood- or marble-effect porcelain be used on both floors and walls?
Yes. Being technical porcelain, most of our marble, wood, cement and natural-stone collections are suitable for both flooring (floor) and cladding (wall), and even outdoors in the anti-slip finishes. This lets you keep a consistent look throughout the project.
What slip resistance do I need for a bathroom or an outdoor area?
In wet areas or outdoors an anti-slip finish is advisable. In Spain it's classified as Class 1, 2 and 3 according to slip resistance (Rd), and on the German scale from R9 to R13. For shower trays, terraces and outdoors, Class 3 (R11 or higher) is recommended. Ask us about the anti-slip finish available in each collection.
How many square metres should I order?
Calculate the area to cover and add a 5–10% waste margin for cuts, adjustments and possible breakages (up to 10–15% for 45° diagonal layouts or jobs with many cuts). In the quote we help you work out the boxes you need, since the material is supplied by full box.
How is the price calculated?
Ceramics are sold by the square metre and the price depends on the collection, format and quantity, so we provide it via a custom quote based on the m² of your project. Bathroom products (basins, toilets and shower trays) do show a per-unit price on each product page —excl. VAT— with volume tiers (order, pallet and +3 pallets).
What is the made-to-order Eco range?
These are out-of-stock references that we supply to order at a tighter price. By working at source with manufacturers in Spain and Spanish firms based in India, this range lets us fit almost any budget. Ask us about availability and lead times for each collection.
Can shower trays be cut to size?
Yes. Our resin and mineral-charge shower trays can be cut to the size of your bathroom. On each tray's product page you'll find the available sizes and, where applicable, surcharges for cutting or for a custom RAL colour.
